Alwar is a small town located in the state of Rajasthan. It is situated on a ridge 889 ft above sea level. The city was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th Century. It is Situated in the Aravalli Hills, it possesses a rich cultural heritage which dates back to 1500 BC. Alwar which was earlier known as Mewat, gained a remarkable reputation of art and culture under the rule of Maharaja Pratap. The city has a rich natural heritage with some beautiful lakes and picturesque valleys thickly wooded in parts. Some of the finest variety of birds and animals are spotted here. Alwar is popular among international and domestic tourists mainly because of its proximity to the famous Sariska Tiger Reserve. Matsya Festival
It is one of the greatest festivals of Alwar City. During the festival several kinds of contests in sports, folk music, song and dance are held, Also public performances of Shehnai-wadan are performed. This festival is celebrated for two days in the month of October.

Alwar Festival
This festival is the major celebration of Alwar, Rajasthan. It is organized by the state authorities for encouraging tourism and it is celebrated for three days. The festival proves the richness of the traditions, cultures and values of Alwar. This is celebrated in the month of February.

Places to visit 

Vinay Vilas Mahal
Vinay Vilas Mahal is a historical eighteenth century palace founded by Raja Bakhatawar Singh. It exhibits a beautiful combination of the architecture marvels of the Rajput and Mughal styles. It is really a very attractive place to visit.

Moosi Maharani ki Chatri
Moosi Maharani ki Chatri monument was made in the memories of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh and his Queen Rani Moosi. It is eye catching to the viewer with its elephant structural design. It has very beautifully marked interiors as well with many wall paintings.

Neemrana Fort Palace
Neemrana Fort Palace is one of the famous attractions of Neemrana and is a perfect destination for historic lovers to spend holidays. This palace had been converted into an inheritance hotel and is an important place to visit while your trip to Neemrana. It was built in 1464 AD.

Karni Mata Temple
Karni Mata Temple is the most remarkable sacred place built at the time of Mughals. This temple is dedicated to Karni Mata, a violent incarnation of Kali. This temple is characterized with excellent artwork. Its intricately carved doors, pergolas, arcades and galleries are a great work of art.
