Dalhousie is a beautiful hill station in the northern state of Himachal pradesh. Dalhousie is well-known for its amazing natural beauty and pleasant climate. It is named after the British governor General of the 19th century, Lord Dalhousie. It is built on around five hills- Kathalagh, Potreyn, Terah, Bakrota and Bhangora. Dalhousie is situated at an average height of 8000 feet. Dalhousie is spread over an area of 14 sq km and is spread over five hills, which offers a pleasant trekking experience to trekkers as well as nature lovers. It has charming architecture, including beautiful churches. The hill station is famous not only for its magnificent beauty, but also for the ancient temples, colonial buildings, mall roads, churches and temples.
Places to visit
Panchpula is a nice picnic spot near Dalhousie town which is 3.5 km from Gandhi Chowk. The Panchpula stream is the main source of water supply to Dalhousie. This place is also famous for the monument built in memory of the great freedom fighter Sardar Ajit Singh, at the point.It is a nice place to spend some time in evening time.
St. Francis Church
Dalhousie is well known for its church buildings and other landmarks erected by the British. St. John's Church is the oldest church and it is located at Gandhi Chowk in Dalhousie. This church was the first to be built after the founding of Dalhousie.
The Norwood Paramdham is a wonderful house with enormous religious and social importance. It is situated on Bakrota Hill of Dalhousie Town. It is also known as the Kainth Wali Kothi. The Norwood Paramdham lies within 5 kilometers of Gandhi Chowk.
Kalatope sanctuary has many species of animals, which include the ghoral, barking deer, the Himalayan black bear and a large avian fauna population. Several tributaries of the River Ravi, which lies to its north, flow through the dense forest of pines and deodars of Kalatope. There is a Forest Rest house here built by the British in 1925, for those who wish to spend the night in the sanctuary. The place is ideal for trekking.
