Anantapur,The Largest District Of Andhra Pradesh
Anantapur is one of the largest district which is situated in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the district headquarters of Anantapur district. The Anantapur city is located in the westernmost part of the Andhra Pradesh and it makes the headquarters as well as the financial centre of the district. Reminiscent of other parts of the state, the city too has abundance of foliage and agrarian blessing. Though it has imbibed modern beliefs, it has not compromised its primeval charm. The city is well-known throughout the country for its booming silk and cotton weaving industry. It is said that Anantapur derived its name from 'Anaatasagaram' (meaning Endless Ocean), a huge tank in the vicinity. 'Hande Anantapuram' is the other name for the place. The district is a rich source of minerals, and hence there are a wide variety of companies, established in the city. These industries deal with the extraction of the metals and minerals, and export them to other countries as raw materials. Apart from this, the city of Anantapur is also the right place to get high quality technical education, and hence many people from other regions are plying to this city for joining the reputable engineering colleges.
Places to visit
ISKON Temple is one of the most famous temple located in Anantapur. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. It was built by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and inaugurated in February 2008.
Veerabhadra Temple is located in Lepakshi village of Anantapur. The temple is quintessential of Vijayanagara architectural style. It was built in around 16th century and also sculpted by Vishwakarma Brahmin Stapathis.
Thimmamma Marrimanu is named after the famous banyan tree, which is locally called as Thimmamma Marrimanu as well. Under the tree, there is a small temple dedicated to Thimmamma. Local people believe that if a childless couple worship Thimmamma they are blessed with a child the very next year.
Anantasagaram is popular as one of largest reservoirs in the entire Anantapur district. This old reservoir tank occupies an area of about 2511 arces. The city of Anantapur owes its name to this tank.
Raidurga Fort is one of the most famous fort located in the city of Anantapur. It is built at a height of 2727 ft from sea level and has played a significant role in the history of the Vijayanagara Empire. The fort comprises several temples including those of Narasimha Swamy, Hanuman, and Elamma.
