Kakinada is a city which is situated in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the banks of River Godavari and is also the headquaters of the East Godavari District. The district is bounded on the north by Vishakhapatnam district and the Orissa State, Bay of Bengal on the east, Khamman district on the south and on the west by West Godavari district. It is a place of rich tradition, breathtaking natural beauty, historical significance and holy pilgrimage. It is also famous for its industries such as Fertilizer, Sugar, Natural gas and petroleum, Power generation, Edible oil refineries and Biofuel plants etc. It is part of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the proposed sectors for investment in the city are Chemical, Petroleum and Petrochemical sectors. Kakinada being a young city does not have many tales in its history lessons. However, some stories regarding its name are known among the locals. Initially the name of the city used to be Kakanandivada during the reign of Nandi chiefs before the arrival of the Europeans, and was later changed to Co-Canada in British era. After the independence of the country, it was again renamed as Kakinada and he same has not been changed since then.

Places To Visit
Bhimesvara Temple is one of the most famous temple located at a distance of 28 kms awy from Kakinada. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This holy destination is rectangular in shape and there are several writings in the temple that shows that the village was earlier called as Chalukya Bhimavaram.
Pithapuram is a famous religious place in East Godavari is situated at a distance of just 20 Kms from Kakinada. It is also known as one of the five Madava Keshatras, one of the twelve pilgrim centers and one of the Asta Data Shakti Peethas.
Draksharaman temple is a also a most famous Hindu temple in Kakinada. The temple is dedivated to Lord Shiva. According to legends, Sage Vyasa once performed self-punishment at this place and thus it was named as the Dakshina Kasi.
Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary
Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is another major tourist attraction in Kakinada. It spreads over an area of 235 square meters. There are around 35 varieties of Mangrove plants which are present at this place. It is very famous for olive ridley sea turtle, estuarine crocodiles and fishing cats.
