Kapurthala,City of Palaces and Gardens
Kapurthala is one of the smallest districts which is situated in the state of Punjab. The administrative headquarters of the district is formed by Kapurthala city. Kapurthala is situated in Jalandhar Daob and comprises of two non-contiguous parts, separated by some 32 km. Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi and Bholath Tehsils form one part and Phagwara Tehsil, the second separated portion. The river Beas separates it from the adjacent district of Gurdaspur in the north and from Amritsar in the west. In the north, Kapurthala abuts partially on the district of Hoshiarpur. It is separated from Firozpur district in the south by the river Sutlej and on the eastern side; it is bounded by Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar districts. The Kapurthala city is very popular for the production of the crops like wheat, sugar and cotton. It is a home to many medium-to-large scale industries. The city has become the major market for purchasing the several kinds of rice varieties such as Basmati and non Basmati rice, parboiled rice, sela rice and raw rice.
Kapurthala was founded in 11th century by Rana Kapur, who was descendant of Rajput royal house of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. It is known to be an erstwhile royal state. The present royal family of Kapurthala has descended from Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, a contemporary of Nadir Shah and Ahmad Shah. The family derives its title of Ahluwalia from village Ahlu, near Lahore, which was founded by S.Sadhu Sigh, an enterprising son of this family. Nawab Jassa Singh took a leading role in the Sikh struggle against the Mughal Governor in Punjab.

Places to visit
Jagatjit Palace is one of the most famous tourist attraction in Kapurthala. It was formerly the palace of the erstwhile Maharajah of Kapurthala state, HRH Maharajah Jagatjit Singh. It spreads over an area of 200 arces. It was designed by a French architect M. Marcel and built by a local builder Allah Ditta in 1908. It is formerly known Sanik School.
Moorish Mosque is one of the most historical place in kapurthala. Lahore. The Mosque is a National Monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.
Panch Mandir is one of the most beautiful and popular Temple in Kapurthala.
Shalimar Gardens is one of the most beautiful garden which is situated in the centre of the city. The prime attraction of this garden is small pond which is located at the entrance of Shalimar Gardens and is very popular for its royal monument and is a perfect destination for visitors.
The State Gurudwara
The State Gurudwara is one of the most famous Gurudwara which is situated on the Sultanpur road in Kapurthala. It was consecrated in 1915 under the in charge of Revail Singh. It was built in the Indo- Saracenic style, it has vast expanses of marble haloed by the feet of the hundreds of devotees.
