Mathura,The Birthplace of Lord Krishna
Mathura is one of the most sacred cities of Hinduism which is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the birth place of Lord Krishna and is situated in the western banks of the Yamuna River. The city of Mathura is also known as Brij Bhoomi which means the land where Shri Krishna was born and spent his youth. The Brij Bhoomi is divided into two distinct units. One being at eastern part of Yamuna with some beautiful places such as Gokul, Mahavan, Baldeo, Mat and Bajna and other is at western side of Yamuna covers entire Mathura region that comprises of Vrindavan, Govardhan, Kusum Sarovar, Barsana and Nandgaon. The city has been ruled by many dynasties and is also famous place for the people of different faiths like Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism. There are many temples in and around the city but the most famous one of them all is the Krishna Janambhoomi temple that is believed to be constructed at the exact place where Lord Krishna was born.
The city of Mathura has an ancient history.The founding of the Mathura city is ascribed to Shatrughna who was the younger brother of Rama, who attacked and killed the Demon Lavansur, the son of Madhu, who had held sway over the area. Shatrughna cleared the forest of Madhuvan and celebrated his victory by founding the city of Mathura. This name is variant of Madhura from Madhu.

Shri Krishan Janmabhoomi Temple
Shri Krishan Janmabhoomi Temple is a major tourist attraction of Mathura. The temple was built by Raja Veer Singh Bundela of Orcha. It is believed to be constructed at the exact place where Lord Krishna was born.
Bankey Bihari Temple
Bankey Bihari Temple is a most famous temple in Mathura. The temple was built in the year of 1864 by Swami Haridas of the Nimbarka Sampradaya. The main idol in the temple includes Lord Krishna standing in the Tribhanga position.
Kusum Sarovar is also an another tourist place in Mathura. It is a 450 ft long and 60 ft deep tank which is located nearby Radha Kunj. The sarovar is believed to be the place where Radha along with gopis used to collect flowers and meet Lord Krishna.
Dwarakadheesh Temple is also one of the most famous temple in Mathura. The temple was constructed by Seth Gokuldas Parikh in 1814. This temple is known for its beautiful architecture, carvings, paintings and idols of Krishna, Balaram and Radha. There are a large number of devotees from all over the country come to this temple to get the blessings of Lord Krishna.
Radha Kund is also one of the most visited tourist place which is situated at a distance of 25 kms away from the city of Mathura. It is the most beautiful and holiest place which attracts many devotees across the world. It is believed that it is in this place that Radha and Krishna enjoyed their most happy times.
