It is also an administrative headquarters of the Rajkot District. It is the fourth largest city in the state of Gujarat after Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. Also once it became the capital of Saurashtra. This city was founded by Vibhoji who was the son of famous personality Ajoji. During British rule Rajkot was used to be the headquarters and later on after independence it became an independent city.

Aji Dam
Aji Dam is one of the most famous tourist attraction which is situated at a distance of 8 kms away from the city of Rajkot. It is not just a dam but is also treated as a picnic spot with beautiful gardens and zoo. This place is maintained by Rajkot Municipal Corporation.

Swaninarayan Temple
Swaninarayan temple is one of the most famous Hindu temple which is located on the Bhupendera road in Rajkot. It was built in 1907 by Shastriji Maharaj of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. The temple is Dedicated to Lord SwaniNarayan.

Jagat Mandir
Jagat Mandir is one of the most popular and beautiful temple which is located on the Yagnik road in Rajkot. This temple is a universal temple which was built in the year of 1934 and has been carved out of red stones. This temple is also populary known as Dwarkadish temple.

Lal Pari Lake
Lal Pari Lake is a beautiful lake which is situated at a distance of 5 kms away from the Rajkot City. It is a great picnic spot in the city and is also a popular bird watching venue, as it is the roosting place for a large number of species of local and migratory birds.

Jubilee Garden
Jubilee Garden is one of the most popular sightseeing and picnic spot which is situated in the heart of the Rajkot City. It is home to a large amusement park along with many shops and attractions like Watson Museum, Connaught Hall, Alfred High School, and Lang Library. It is also a major commercial hub of the city.
