Tirupati is a city located in Chittoor district of the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh. The temple town of Tirupati is situated amidst the thickly-wooded hills in the eastern ghats in Andhra Pradesh. The Eastern Ghats looks like a snake where Tirumala forms the hood. Tirupati is the town and transport hub at the bottom of the hill. The hill near the temple is known as 'Tirumala' or the sacred hill. The Tirumala Hill is 3200 feet above sea level and comprises of seven peaks that represent the seven hoods of Adishesha. Tirupati means the Lord of Lakshmi and is applied to the village on the Venkat hill. Tirupati is the abode of the “Lord Venkateshwara, also known as the Lord of the Seven Hills and Balaji. The Lord Venkateshwara is the 'Kaliyuga' incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Tirupati is the most famous, richest and ancient temple in the South India. Not only, the divine darshan but various attractions provided by nature, serene surroundings and a pro-active administration have made this place the ideal pilgrimage and holiday destination. The word Tirupati is said to have been derived from Tripathi. Tri is a Sanskrit word referring to Lord of Tripathy of the sacred hill. In Tamil translation, Thiru means Sacred and also referred to as Goddess Lakshmi and Pathi means Husband. So, it is known as the Sacred abode of Vishnu. Malayalam manuscripts of 1802 referred as Tripati and Teeropaty. Tirupati is sometimes referred to as Lower Tirupati, and nearby Tirumala as Upper Tirupati. Apart from this, the Tirupati Temple gets mention in the Puranas. Its history can be traced back to 9th century. The Pallavas of Kancheepuram patronized the construction of the Tirupati Temple. This Hindu temple became popular during 15th century under the rule of the Vijayanagara dynasty. The Mahants of the Hatiramji Mutt looked after the administrative activities of the Tirupati Temple from about 1843 to 1933 AD. It was from 1933 that the administrative duties of the temple was handed over to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam by the government of Madras. After a few years, in 1951, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam was reconstituted and it was decided that an Executive Officer will henceforth act as an administrative head.

Lord Venkateshwara temple 
Lord Venkateshwara temple is one of the most famous temple located in Tirupati. The Lord Venkateshwara, also known as Balaji is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple is situated at the Tirumala Hills and famous all over the world. This temple is visited by millions of pilgrims from all over the world.

Shri Govindrajaswamy Temple
Shri Govindrajaswamy Temple is also a major tourist attraction in Tirupati. This temple is dedicated to Vishnu and Krishna. It has an imposing gopuram or elaborate gateway that can be seen from the distance. This temple was consecrated by the Saint Ramanujacharya in 1130 AD.

Sila Thoranam
Sila Thoranam is the natural rock formation situated on the Tirumala Hills. This rock formation is one of the natures wonders and one of its kind in Asia. It is a naturally-formed arch of rock and these types of rocks can be also seen in the Rainbow Arch at Utah in USA and the Cut Through in UK.

Swami Pushkarni
Swami Pushkarni is also a must visit place in Tirupati. It is a tank that is located near the Lord Venkateshwara temple. This tank is considered as sacred. Various pilgrims take a dip in the tank before having a darshan of Lord Venkateshwara. According to the legend, it was originally brought down to earth by Garuda for Lord Venkateshwara.

Agastyaswamy Temple
The Agastyaswamy Temple lies at the confluence of three rivers which are Swarnamukhi, Bhima and Kalyan. The temple has three beautifully sculptured entrances that heighten the grandeur of the hall and inside a separate shrine for Goddess Parvati is also located within the temple.
