Visakhapatnam,The Financial Capital Of Andhra Pradesh 

Visakhapatnam is the largest city, both in terms of area and population in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the coast of Bay of Bengal in the north eastern region of the state. It is the administrative headquarters of Visakhapatnam district and also the Financial Capital of Andhra Pradesh. The city is nestled among the hills of the Eastern Ghats and faces the Bay of Bengal to the east. It is also home to the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy. Mainly a thriving industrial town, Visakhapatnam is also a busy port. Visakhapatnam attracts people from all over the country who visit the city looking for jobs and is rightly called the city of destiny. Visakhapatnam houses some of the most beautiful beaches in the country and is also known as the jewel of the east coast. Having been under Buddhist influence till the 2nd century, Visakhapatnam and the regions around it house some marvelous Buddhist structures such as viharas, stupasand monasteries. The city is known as a center of culture and tradition. Various cultural festivals like Visakha Festival, Music Festival among others, organized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh has given tourism a major boost in the city.  

According to the history, the city was named after the god of Valor-Vishakha. It was a part of the Kalinga Kingdom, under Ashoka's rule in 260 B.C. It passed on later to the Andhra Kings of Vengi. Afet this Pallava, Chola and Gang dynasties ruled the city. In the 15th century, Vishakhapatnam became a part of the Vijayanagar Empire. After 1947, independent India went through several changes with regard to its territories. The former region comprising of Visakhapatnam was considered one of the largest territories in India and was thus broken down into three separate territories. Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam were the three separate regions that came into being. The effects of the World War II, Indo-Park War in 1971, and Bangladesh Liberation War were also seen in Visakhapatnam after which India understood Visakhapatnam importance and decided to set up an Eastern Naval Command in this region. Since 1949, Visakhapatnam has served as a dockyard for several torpedoes and other heavy vessels as well as has been accountable for research and development activity of many warship equipments, advance military technology and nuclear weaponry.

Places To Visit 

Araku Valley 
Araku valley is a major tourist attraction in Visakhapatnam which is situated on Eastern Ghats and offers beautiful views of valley, waterfalls and streams. The pleasant weather and beautiful hills and valleys make the place ideal for its natural beauty and coffee plantations. It is located at an average altitude ranging between 600 m and 900 m above the sea level.

Rishikonda Beach
Rishikonda Beach is a most visited place in Visakhapatnam. It is an ideal beach for indulging in various water sports such as swimming, water skiing and wind surfing. Lined with green plants and foliage, the beach attracts many nature lovers and adventure lovers to the destination.

Borra Caves
Borra Caves is also another tourist attraction which is situated on the East Coast of India in the Anantagiri Hill range of the Araku Valley. It is spread across an area of about 2 sq km and are situated around 1,400 m above sea level. The caves were discovered by William King George of the Geological Survey of India in 1807.  

Kailasagiri Hill Park
Kailasa Giri is a beautiful hill station of the destination offering beautiful view of the sea. The name of the hill is derived from the word Kailasa, which means abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The main attraction of the place includes ropeway trolleys, enshrined sculpture of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Road Train for kids and a huge Floral Clock.

Yarada Beach
Yarada Beach is also one of the most popular and cleanest beach located in the city of Visakhapatnam. The beach is dotted with lush green surroundings and soft golden sands. The beach is an ideal tourist spot for nature lovers as they can capture beautiful views of sunrise and sunsets on this huge coastline.
